    Ada Windle
    Ada Windle
Original in Mitchell Library titled "Ada or Mary Windle". Taken and framed by James Rooke, the girls grandfather. Sadly, little Ada died not long after the photo was taken, this is probably why these photos were so treasured by the Windle family. This is a very hurried photo I took when I asked for viewing of the items donated by Ruth Robertson.

Photo of Parramatta Street (now Broadway) taken by James Rooke ca1850
My 3 x great grandfather, James Rooke, took this photo of Broadway in Sydney sometime prior to his death in 1860. The negative was also accompanied by a sketch (dated 1861) and handwriting which describes the buildings in the photo. The items, along with photos of 2 of his granddaughters were donated to the Mitchell Library by another relative, Ruth Robertson.
